Apple will host its annual developer conference WWDC in San Jose, California later today. The worldwide developer conference is the place where Apple showcases all the new platform changes coming to its mobile and desktop operating systems. At the event scheduled to start at 10.30PM IST, Apple is expected to announce iOS 12, macOS 11.4, watchOS 5 and update to tvOS.
Alongside these major changes, Apple is also anticipated to introduce improvements to ARKit, the world’s largest augmented reality platform. Apple is said to bring the ability to share AR content with other iPhone users. While WWDC is an event about software, Apple does have a habit of throwing hardware into the mix. According to reports, Apple might introduce an updated MacBook Pro with a more powerful CPU at the event.
A MacBook Pro model with the name “MacBookPro14,3” has appeared in Geekbench listings suggesting Apple will use Intel’s Core i7-8750H CPU on its premium mobile computing device. The Core i7-8750H is part of the Coffee Lake family and comes with six cores as opposed to the four-core CPU found on existing models. The chipset has a base clock frequency of 2.21GHz, which is slower than the clock frequency on existing models but has the potential to boost up to 4.1GHz.
On Geekbench, the purposed device achieved a single-core score of 4,902 and a multi-core score of 22,316. The score puts it way ahead of the top-of-the-line MacBook Pro model and could be a stop gap measure to please professional users who have been complaining about the lack of updated processors.
Apple announced a new MacBook Pro with Touch Bar and Touch ID integrated directly into the Power button in October 2016. The notebook received a minor refresh last year but it still falls way behind in terms of performance. The MacBook Pro refresh is one of the most anticipated announcements at WWDC this year.
